Abstract:

Ensuring security is most challenging in today’s world and the choice of locking mechanism plays a crucial role in safeguarding property and assets.

Traditional locking methods, such as mechanical locks and keys, have been the cornerstone of security for centuries.

One of the primary disadvantages of traditional locks is their susceptibility to unauthorized duplication and misuse of keys.

The loss or theft of a key can lead to unauthorized access, posing significant security risks to property and individuals.

In contrast, modern locking systems leverage advanced technologies, such as electronic access control, biometrics, and remote monitoring, to address the shortcomings of traditional methods.

Electronic locking systems provide greater flexibility in access management, allowing administrators to assign and revoke access privileges remotely and dynamically adapt to changing security requirements.

The proposed system integrates a Raspberry Pi with various components like a fingerprint sensor, camera, keypad, solenoid lock, and LCD display to provide flexible access control.

Users can choose between keypad, biometric, or face recognition for entry. Keypad entry involves setting and entering a password stored in the system, while biometric access requires matching fingerprints with stored data.

Face recognition system compares the user’s image with stored images for authentication. Successful authentication unlocks the door, while failed attempts trigger error messages on the LCD, keeping the door locked and sending the captured image of the intruder to the owners mobile.

A relay is used for unlocking door, if relay pin is high the door is unlocked and lights, fans are turned on.

This system has applications in office buildings, warehouses, or other commercial facilities, the system can serve as an effective access control solution. Employees can use this system for seamless entry.

Hospitals, clinics, and medical centres handle expensive equipment that require strict access control, this system can help healthcare providers manage access to restricted areas, ensuring that only authorized personnel are allowed.
