Abstract:
The Smart Jacket is an IoT-based wearable system designed to continuously monitor vital health and environmental parameters, providing real-time alerts to caregivers or medical professionals. The jacket integrates multiple biomedical sensors with microcontroller platforms (Arduino Uno and NodeMCU) to collect, process, and transmit data wirelessly.
The system includes a MAX30100 sensor for SpO2 (blood oxygen level) and heart rate monitoring, an ECG sensor for cardiac rhythm analysis, a DHT11 sensor to measure body temperature and humidity, a MQ series gas sensor to detect harmful gases in the environment, and a GPS module for location tracking. A NodeMCU (ESP8266) handles Wi-Fi connectivity, sending real-time data to the Blynk cloud platform, where users can monitor health metrics remotely through a smartphone.
A buzzer alert system is included to notify the wearer or nearby individuals of abnormal health readings such as high heart rate, low oxygen saturation, or hazardous gas presence. The jacket is powered by rechargeable batteries, with a manual switch for system control and safety.
This smart wearable aims to assist elderly people, patients, and workers in hazardous environments by providing continuous health and safety monitoring, potentially preventing life-threatening situations through early detection and intervention.
Introduction
In today’s fast-paced world, the need for real-time health monitoring has become increasingly critical—especially for elderly individuals, patients with chronic conditions, and those working in high-risk environments. Wearable health monitoring systems are transforming healthcare by enabling continuous tracking of vital signs and environmental conditions, which can significantly improve preventive care and emergency response.
The Smart Jacket is an innovative, IoT-based solution designed to address this need. Built using an Arduino Uno and NodeMCU (ESP8266), this jacket integrates several biomedical and environmental sensors to monitor the wearer’s health and surroundings. Key sensors include a MAX30100 for heart rate and SpO2 (oxygen saturation), an ECG sensor for cardiac monitoring, a DHT11 sensor for body temperature and humidity, and a gas sensor for detecting harmful gases. A GPS module provides location tracking, and a buzzer triggers alerts during emergencies.
