Abstract
The Load Management for Household Appliances project is an IoT-based smart energy management system designed to monitor, control, and optimize electricity usage in homes. The system uses an ESP32 microcontroller along with voltage sensors, current sensors, temperature sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and relay modules to manage different household appliances efficiently. The main objective of the project is to reduce unnecessary power consumption, improve energy efficiency, and provide automatic appliance control.
The system continuously measures electrical parameters such as voltage, current, power, and energy consumption of household loads. Based on sensor readings and predefined conditions, appliances are automatically switched ON or OFF using relays. Human presence detection is also implemented using ultrasonic sensors to avoid wastage of electricity when rooms are unoccupied. The project additionally includes overload and over-temperature protection to improve electrical safety.
An IoT platform using the Blynk application enables real-time monitoring and remote control of appliances through smartphones. The measured data is also uploaded to a cloud server using Wi-Fi for storage and analysis. The system calculates power consumption and estimated electricity bills, helping users understand and manage their energy usage effectively.
This project provides a smart, low-cost, and efficient solution for household load management, contributing to energy conservation, automation, safety, and intelligent home management systems.
Introduction
In modern households, the use of electrical appliances has increased rapidly due to advancements in technology and the growing demand for comfort and convenience. Appliances such as fans, lights, water pumps, televisions, air conditioners, and other electronic devices consume a significant amount of electrical energy every day. Improper usage and unnecessary operation of these appliances lead to excessive power consumption, increased electricity bills, and energy wastage. Therefore, efficient load management has become an important requirement in smart homes and energy-saving systems.
The Load Management for Household Appliances project is developed to provide an intelligent and automated solution for monitoring and controlling household electrical loads. This system uses the ESP32 microcontroller along with various sensors to measure important parameters such as voltage, current, power consumption, temperature, and water level. The project also includes relay modules for controlling appliances automatically and remotely.
The system is designed using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, which enables real-time monitoring and control of appliances through the Blynk mobile application. Users can view electrical parameters, control appliances from anywhere, and receive alerts during abnormal conditions such as overload, high temperature, or low water level. Ultrasonic sensors are used for human detection, allowing appliances to switch OFF automatically when no person is detected, thereby reducing unnecessary power consumption.
In addition to automation, the project also calculates energy consumption and estimated electricity bills, helping users understand and optimize their electricity usage. The collected data is sent to a cloud server through Wi-Fi for remote storage and analysis. This system improves energy efficiency, enhances safety, reduces electricity wastage, and supports the development of smart and sustainable homes.
Overall, the Load Management for Household Appliances project provides a cost-effective, reliable, and user-friendly solution for smart home energy management and efficient utilization of electrical resources.
