Abstract:
This project presents a low-cost, efficient solution to assist visually impaired individuals in navigating their surroundings using a smart blind stick powered by an Arduino Uno.
The system incorporates an ultrasonic sensor, buzzer, and vibration motor to detect obstacles and provide immediate sensory feedback.
The ultrasonic sensor continuously measures the distance to objects in the user's path, and when an obstacle is detected within a defined range, the buzzer produces an audible alert while the vibration motor delivers haptic feedback.
This dual-feedback system ensures that the user is promptly notified of potential hazards, enhancing safety and mobility.
The system is powered by a compact 9V battery, ensuring portability and ease of use.
This device aims to improve the independence and quality of life for visually impaired individuals by offering an intuitive, reliable, and affordable navigation aid.
The primary objectives of this project are:
• Develop a Smart Blind Stick: Design and implement a smart blind stick using an Arduino Uno, ultrasonic sensor, buzzer, and vibration motor to assist visually impaired individuals in obstacle detection.
• Enhance Mobility and Safety: Provide reliable, real-time obstacle detection and notification through auditory (buzzer) and haptic (vibration motor) feedback, improving the user’s mobility and safety in various environments.
• Design for Portability and Ease of Use: Ensure the system is lightweight, portable, and easy to use by powering it with a compact 9V battery, making it a practical everyday tool for the visually impaired.
• Affordable and Scalable Solution: Create a cost-effective, easily replicable device that can be adopted by visually impaired individuals globally, offering a scalable solution to navigation challenges.
• Improve Independence: Empower visually impaired users with greater independence and confidence in navigating unfamiliar or crowded spaces by providing early warnings of obstacles beyond the reach of traditional mobility aids like white canes.
