Abstract:
The increasing demand for efficient and reliable patient care systems has led to the development of automated solutions for medication management.
This project presents the design and implementation of an Automatic Patient Medicine Reminder System using the Arduino Mega microcontroller.
The system integrates multiple components, including a keypad for security, a GSM module for remote alerts, a red LED for guiding patients to the correct medicine slot, a speaker for auditory reminders, and a relay-controlled door locking mechanism to secure medication storage.
Upon reaching the predefined medicine schedule, the system alerts the user via GSM and activates both the LED and speaker to ensure timely medication intake.
The keypad ensures that only authorized users can access the medication compartment, while the relay-based lock system provides controlled access to the medicine.
The system is designed to assist patients, especially the elderly or those with memory impairments, in adhering to their medication schedules, thereby improving treatment outcomes and reducing human intervention.
The proposed solution is cost-effective, reliable, and easy to implement, making it suitable for both home and healthcare facilities.
The main objectives of the Automatic Patient Medicine Reminder System are:
• Improve Medication Adherence: To ensure that patients take their prescribed medications on time by providing timely reminders through both visual (LED) and auditory (speaker) alerts.
• Enhance Patient Security: To incorporate a secure access mechanism using a keypad and relay-controlled lock, ensuring that only authorized users can access the medicine compartment.
• Provide Remote Monitoring: To enable caregivers or healthcare providers to monitor and remind patients remotely via a GSM module that sends SMS alerts when it’s time to take medication.
• Reduce Medication Errors: To minimize the risk of patients taking the wrong medication or dosage by guiding them to the correct slot using an illuminated LED.
• Automate Medication Management: To automate the process of unlocking and locking the medicine compartment at the scheduled times, ensuring controlled access to medicines and reducing the need for manual intervention.
• Offer a Scalable, Low-Cost Solution: To design a cost-effective system that can be implemented in both home environments and healthcare facilities, with easy scalability for various patient needs.
