Abstract
The Smart Medication Using IoT project presents a reliable and automated medicine reminder system developed using ESP32, cloud services, and the Blynk IoT platform. The system continuously communicates with a remote web server using HTTP protocol to retrieve prescription data including medicine name, scheduled time, and designated slot number. When the prescribed time arrives, the ESP32 activates an audible buzzer, displays the medicine details on a 16×2 I2C LCD, and turns ON a specific LED corresponding to the medicine slot.
Simultaneously, a notification message is sent to the patient or caretaker through the Blynk mobile application, ensuring real-time awareness. This multi-alert approach significantly reduces the chances of missed doses. The system is designed to be user-friendly, energy-efficient, and cost-effective. It demonstrates how IoT technology can be effectively applied in healthcare to improve medication adherence, patient safety, and quality of life.
Introduction
In modern healthcare, proper medication management plays a vital role in successful treatment outcomes. Many patients, especially senior citizens, are required to take multiple medicines at different times of the day. Due to memory loss, busy schedules, or confusion between medicines, patients often miss doses or consume the wrong tablets.
Conventional pill organizers do not provide active reminders or remote monitoring capabilities. With the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, smart healthcare devices can now interact with users and caregivers in real time. IoT-based systems allow medical data to be stored, monitored, and accessed remotely through the internet.
The Smart Medication Using IoT system leverages these technologies by integrating ESP32, cloud APIs, and mobile applications to create an intelligent medicine reminder system. This project aims to reduce human error, improve treatment adherence, and provide peace of mind to both patients and caregivers.
Problem Statement
Patients frequently miss or incorrectly take prescribed medicines due to forgetfulness or confusion between multiple tablets and time slots. There is a need for an automated system that can remind users at the correct time, identify the correct medicine slot, and notify caretakers remotely.
