Data Leakage Detection System Using Alteration-Based Tracking Java Project

In today's rapidly advancing digital era, securing sensitive information has become a top priority for organizations. As confidential data is frequently shared with internal personnel or external stakeholders, the risk of it being leaked, either intentionally or accidentally, is significant. This can lead to substantial financial losses, reputation damage, and legal complications. Traditional systems offer preventive mechanisms like encryption and access control, but they lack the capability to trace back to the source once the data is leaked.

This project proposes a Java-based application that embeds unique identifiers, referred to as alteration codes, within each copy of the data allocated to agents. Each alteration is distinct per agent, allowing the system to determine which agent received which version of the data. If a version of the data is leaked and recovered, the system compares the leaked alteration tag with the stored mappings and accurately identifies the responsible agent.

The system is simple and interactive, using core Java principles and data structures such as HashMaps to store and compare allocations. By combining effective data management with traceability, this project introduces a practical solution for small to medium-sized organizations looking to secure their data through accountability. It is a lightweight and extendable system, forming the base for more advanced implementations involving file handling, databases, and watermarking techniques.
