The algorithm works by constructing decision trees that split data based on the most informative features, which is particularly useful when dealing with complex and multidimensional agricultural data.

The process begins with data collection, which involves gathering information about soil properties (e.g., pH, moisture, fertility), climate conditions (e.g., temperature, rainfall), and geographical factors (e.g., latitude, altitude). The dataset may also include historical crop performance to help predict the best crop type for a given environment. Once the data is collected, it is preprocessed by cleaning missing values, encoding categorical variables, and creating new features that can improve the model’s performance.
LightGBM is particularly suitable for crop recommendation because of its efficiency and scalability. It uses histogram-based methods for faster training, handles missing data naturally, and can provide insights into feature importance. The model is trained on the data, with hyperparameters such as the learning rate and number of estimators fine-tuned to achieve optimal performance. The trained model is then evaluated using metrics like accuracy or mean squared error, depending on the nature of the problem (classification or regression).
